Three generations of looking out for our neighbors
What started as a single-office agency in the early 1970s has grown into a team of agents across six Michigan offices — Alpena, Hillman, Traverse City, Petoskey, Gaylord, and Iron River. Many of our clients have worked with the same agent, or the same family of agents, for decades.
As a locally owned independent insurance agency, our goal is to be solution provider or choice in our communities. We will help you manage and plan for your potential risks. As professionals, we assess your needs and offer you a variety of insurance products to choose from. Service, whether it is in response to an insurance claim or general question, is the most important value we offer you. We work hard to build a trusted relationship with our customers. We strive to make you feel both comfortable with and confident in our abilities by acting as your consultant. We want you to have the confidence in us that your parents may have had and that your children will have. We are an organization dedicated to our customers. We seek out the best companies that offer the appropriate coverages at a fair price.

A group of independent insurance agents from across Michigan, led by Don Bartosh, come together to build an agency rooted in the communities they call home.
The next generation steps in
Don's son, Brian Bartosh, joins the agency at just 17 — the start of a family commitment that still runs the business today.
A third generation joins
Brian's son, Tyler Bartosh, comes aboard, carrying the family's name and values into a third generation of looking out for our neighbors.
We become a Keystone partner
Top O' Michigan joins Keystone Insurers Group — staying locally owned while gaining the carrier relationships and resources of a national network. National resources, locally sourced.
Spire Insurance Solutions launches
The family launches a sister agency, Spire Insurance Solutions, to serve specialty commercial clients across the country.

Instead, we represent a broad panel of regional and national carriers — including (but not limited to) , Frankenmuth, Selective, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, AAA, Safeco, Central, Accident Fund, Retailers, Hartford, Travelers, and Fremont — and we shop them side by side to fit your life, your property, and your budget. Coverage and rates are subject to underwriting. That independence also means something underwriters notice. We build long-term relationships with our carrier partners instead of shopping every account to death, so when we bring them your business, they know it's presented well and represented honestly. That matters when it's time to write your policy, and it matters even more if you ever need to lean on that relationship during a claim.
